Health and Safety
Our strategic (and stated) objective is to attain 'zero accidents' in the workplace. In support of this, our target is to achieve an annual reduction in reported accidents of 20%. Since 2004, we have reduced accidents within the group by over 30% and by 56% within our contracting division.
For example, since 2005 we have increased the level of auditing of our network contractors by 38%.
In order to ensure high standards of health and safety performance 'in the field', we have introduced an electronic 'site audit' which measures performance against the whole claims process (including health and safety). This enables 'real time' reporting and has been instrumental in improving our performance. For example, since 2005 we have increased the level of auditing of our contractors by 38% - during this time, the number of health and safety related 'non-conformances' recorded has actually fallen by 40%!
This fits in with our commitment to drive continuous improvement across all areas of the business.
In relation to environmental management, and as a responsible employer, we have identified the impacts of our business upon both the local and global environment. Accordingly, we have developed an environmental management system which is based upon ISO 14001 guidelines.
